First, I do not like Pit Bulls. However I am an animal lover. I don't think there is 1 person in the world, except maybe Mr. Howell, that would agree that was in anyway the proper way to handle that situation. This dog was already secured to a tether and anyone in the community was safe. The dog was very calm and appeared to listen to commands to sit and lay. Of course the dog started flailing when a catch pole is around his neck, that is natural. This dog could have been safely put in the back of the vehicle for transport. There was nothing that gave this officer the right to take the dogs life. My jaw literally dropped when I saw him shoot this animal after what transpired on the video. How can you keep this man employed and why is he not behind bars?

BEFORE I SHARE MY REVIEW.. I'D LIKE TO MENTION THAT THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE AGAINST YOUR DEPARTMENT FOR WHAT YOUR OFFICER GOT AWAY WITH. HOW CAN YOU ALLOW HIM TO REMAIN ON YOUR FORCE, EVEN AFTER YOU SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ANGRY FOR WHAT HE DID? Doug Howell should not be allowed to remain a police officer. Over a million people have seen the full video, and witnessed how he reacted to a dog that was clearly just scared. There was no proof that the dog "growled at a child".. Even if the dog was vicious, how did someone get close enough to chain it to a trailer? Obviously she was not a threat! Once the officer had the dog on the pole, it was under control. The dog did not attempt to bite or attack either officer. The dog was trying to get away because it was obviously afraid. Why didn't both police cooperate to put the dog in a crate/cage? I am sure you heard all of this before about the coward cop Doug Howell. I am just one of over a million people who believe this man should be fired off of your police force and not allowed to be an officer on any police force. My brother has been an officer for DuPage Co in IL for over 30 years. I would be ashamed if he had ever shot a defenseless dog that was already under control. All the coward had to do was put her in a cage at that point. Since you settled the civil case with the man who owned the dog, you obviously admitted fault. Or you would have fought the law suit, rather than settle. The cop cowards should be fired! I hope Doug Howell's family are real proud of the coward he has turned out to be. I hope he is haunted by what he did for the rest of his life. I hope this incident follows him in everything he does, everywhere he goes!
